Dr. Dhruv Sud has 10+ years of experience in counseling a wide spectrum of inventive entities, from single inventors to technology companies and universities.  With a technical background that encompasses the biological sciences, computer engineering, and biomedical optics, his practice similarly straddles the range from software and bioinformatics to medical devices/procedures, microfluidics, and diagnostics.  He has significant experience in developing IP portfolios from scratch, and in navigating crowded IP spaces to find the right balance between strategic protection and business value for his clients.  He also has experience in post-grant proceedings.

Dr. Sud graduated from the George Washington University Law School, where he was the recipient of the American Bar Association/Bureau of National Affairs Award for excellence in Intellectual Property Law coursework.

Dr. Sud received his PhD and MSE in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where his doctoral work focused on developing experimental and computational techniques for advanced digital imaging microscopy, and oxygen sensing in living systems via fluorescence lifetime imaging in particular. While at Michigan, he also gained experience in developing mathematical models of disease progression at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

Dr. Sud received his Bachelor degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Delhi University, where he graduated First Class and undertook multiple internships with Microsoft R&D.

Dr. Sud is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Dr. Sud has been granted limited recognition by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to prepare and prosecute patent applications under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
