Dr. Max Colice advises high-technology companies and universities on creating and enforcing high-value patent protection for photonics, optics, lasers, semiconductor devices, electronics, software, telecommunications, robotics, and medical devices. He has written seminal patent applications for start-ups, obtained key patents for leverage in licensing negotiations, and guided clients through patent diligence in 8- and 9-figure acquisitions. He has extensive experience in patent prosecution, challenging and defending the validity of patents in post-grant proceedings, and patent litigation support.
Dr. Colice earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado on a National Science Foundation fellowship. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he invented a patented method of tracking motion for high-resolution endoscopic imaging that was licensed to a large medical equipment manufacturer. Before graduate school, he worked on noise reduction in analog fiber optic links at the US Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. He graduated from the Suffolk University Law School night program while working full-time as a patent agent.
Dr. Colice maps patent strategy to business objectives. In his prosecution practice, he uses examiner interviews, the Patent Prosecution Highway, Track 1 examination, and other patent office programs to expedite allowance and reduce life cycle costs for patent procurement clients. And he uses his technical expertise to identify and exploit areas for intellectual property creation and mitigate risks posed by third-party intellectual property.
Dr. Colice is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
