Juliet Mitchell Dirba is a patent attorney and former Administrative Patent Judge (APJ) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).  She specializes in inter partes review (IPR) and other PTAB proceedings, including ex parte appeals during patent prosecution.  Ms. Dirba’s practice also includes pre-litigation and patent licensing matters, as well as patent portfolio management, sales, and due diligence. 

Ms. Dirba has a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Electrical Engineering, and she is comfortable with a wide variety of technologies, including semiconductors, computer architecture, telecommunications, and software.

PAST EXPERIENCE

Ms. Dirba has nearly 20 years of experience as a patent attorney, and she has worked in private practice, in house, and in public service.  She began her career prosecuting and litigating patents at Baker Botts and Vinson & Elkins.  She then worked in house as a senior patent attorney for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).  During that time, she was responsible for AMD’s inbound pre-litigation and patent licensing matters, and she advised on the enforcement and monetization of AMD’s patent portfolio.  Most recently, she served as an APJ at the PTAB, where she presided over nearly 250 inter partes review proceedings, decided more than 200 ex parte appeals, and advised former Director Vidal on requests for Director Review of PTAB decisions.
