Juliet Mitchell Dirba has over 20 years of experience as a patent attorney, and she has worked in private practice, in house, and in public service. Her practice includes pre-litigation and patent licensing matters, PTAB proceedings (such as inter partes reviews), patent portfolio management, sales, and due diligence.
Ms. Dirba has a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Electrical Engineering, and she is comfortable with a wide variety of technologies, including semiconductors, computer architecture, telecommunications, and software.
PAST EXPERIENCE
At the beginning of her career, Ms. Dirba prosecuted and litigated patents at Baker Botts and Vinson & Elkins, and she clerked for the Honorable Sharon Prost at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
In 2012, she left biglaw to join Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), where she was responsible for AMD’s inbound pre-litigation and patent licensing matters. In that capacity, she managed a team responsible for responding to all patent-related demand letters and requests for indemnification received by AMD. Also, while at AMD, Ms. Dirba oversaw patent litigation strategy, assisted with the enforcement and monetization of AMD’s patent portfolio, and provided general IP advice to other members of the legal department.
In 2019, she accepted an appointment to serve as an Administrative Patent Judge (APJ) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where she presided over nearly 250 inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, decided more than 200 ex parte appeals, and advised former Director Vidal on requests for Director Review of PTAB decisions.
In 2025, Ms. Dirba reentered private practice to continue her passion of helping clients find efficient solutions to their patent problems.
